Since February 2013, Barkley serves as the eighth dean and twentieth rector of historic downtown Christ Church Cathedral, the oldest church in Houston, Texas, and the cathedral church of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas. Prior to Houston, he served as the rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in downtown Roanoke, Virginia.
Barkley is an avid writer. His first book, Elements of Grace, was published in December 2013 by Trinity Books. Barkley also preaches and teaches around the country and serves on interfaith panels with leaders from other religious traditions. Barkley chairs the boards of The Beacon, Houston’s largest empowerment day center for the homeless, and the Hines Center.
Flo H. Ray, President
Flo Ray has been part of the Hines Center from its inception. As a long time member of Christ Church Cathedral, she was part of the planning committee that produced the idea of a spirituality center. She served on the Steering Committee that oversaw the remodeling of the building space and helped plan programs and operational structures for the Hines Center for Spirituality and Prayer.
About her work with the Hines Center, Flo says, “It has been my pleasure to participate in a variety of activities at the Center and to imagine new ways for us to fulfill our mission to ‘nurture spirituality through spiritual practices, prayer, and opportunities for both Christian and interfaith lecture and conversation.’ ”

Katie Barnes, Secretary
In addition to serving as Secretary of our Board of Directors, Katie has also served at Christ Church Cathedral as chair of the Religion and the Arts and Stewardship Councils and as a Vestry member.
She is a graduate of Episcopal High School, Texas Christian University and South Texas College of Law. Katie is an attorney who currently works as director of right of way and in house counsel for Texas Central Partners, a private company building high speed rail between Houston and Dallas. She also enjoys spending her spare time working out, traveling, and hanging out with her bees as an amateur beekeeper.
Wayne Clawater, Member at Large
Wayne Clawater was Chairman of the task force that developed Christ Church Cathedral’s vision plan leading to the creation of the Hines Center. Since the Hines Center’s creation, he has served on the Center’s Steering Committee, now Board of Directors. Wayne also serves as a member of the Executive Board.
He is managing partner of the law firm Scott, Clawater & Houston, LLP, a Houston litigation firm. Wayne has been a member of Christ Church Cathedral for 35 years, and has served as a Vestry Member most recently as Senior Warden in 2016.

Chad Cross is a Financial Analyst at ExxonMobil, where he has served in a number of roles in the Chemical and Downstream organizations since joining the company in 2012. His prior work experience also includes three years at Cambridge Associates, an investment consulting firm, where he was based in Washington, D.C.
Chad earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia and a M.B.A. from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is an active member of Christ Church Cathedral, where he was married to his wife, Jean Rose, in 2011. He enjoys spending time with family, travelling, playing and watching sports, running, and reading.
