This 3-day workshop for students ages 9 – 14, is a performance workshop that integrates dance, theater, and performance techniques to help cultivate artistry. It is an interactive workshop that is cross-genre between dance, music, and theater designed to instill much more confidence in the young artist. “Find Your Light, Tell Your Story” is the workshop mantra designed to motivate the young performer to express their individuality in whatever medium they happen to be performing at the given time.
Monica Josette is an acclaimed national/international artist. A native Houstonian, Monica began her performance and training career as a classical dancer. In her early years Monica was a student of The Houston Ballet as well as studying under Sallie Bowie Daniels. (One of the first African American woman to attend Julliard) She is a graduate of The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston. HSPVA has produced graduates the likes of Beyonce, Robert Glasper, Chris Dave, Brian Michael Cox, and Jason Moran to name a few. Under the direction of Paula Sloan, Monica was a proud member of The Texas Tap Ensemble. A recipient of Arts Recognition and Talent Search and a Presidential Scholar in the Arts, Monica also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Modern Dance Pedagogy from The University of Oklahoma.
Also a trained actress and singer, Monica is a proud member of the Actor’s Equity Association and has graced many stage productions including Westchester Broadway Theater’s “Aida” and “Hot Mikado.” She was also an original cast member of the Off Broadway Show “Celia Cruz!” Monica’s artistry and accomplishments cross many genres. She has toured with several recording artists as a singer and a dancer including Santigold, Kelly Rowland, Coldplay, Kanye West, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers just to name a few. She served as co-choreographer to Santigold for five years in the dynamic dance duo the SG-1’s! A true international artist Monica has performed in over 40 countries in her years as a professional.
Monica is the Writer and Director of “The Lipstick Junkies featuring Black Caviar and The Ray of Sunshine!” A cabaret musical show originally housed in Atlanta, GA. Affectionately known as The Lipstick Junkies Show, it has received major national and international recognition. The show boasted an All-Star cast of performers and musicians affiliated with Tyler Perry, Jennifer Holiday, BRAVO TV, Outkast, Ne-Yo and many more
Monica is an incredible teacher and humanitarian and has been cultivating young minds for many years. With lots of outreach under her belt and many years devoted to arts education, Monica continues to “refill the well.” Her workshop classes are always interactive and garner focus on developing artistry and storytelling through dance, music, and acting. Monica’s wide range of experience brings an immense amount of depth to her artistry and teaching.
